Description:

On 18 September 2017, the Permanent Missions of Ecuador and South Africa to the United Nations in New York, in collaboration with the South Centre, hosted a discussion session on the Elaboration of a Legally Binding Instrument on Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises. The session addressed issues pertaining to the mandate of Resolution A/HRC/26/9 of the Human Rights Council, which established an open-ended intergovernmental working group under the Human Rights Council on transnational corporations and other business enterprises with respect to human rights. The mandate of the intergovernmental working group is to elaborate an international legally binding instrument to regulate, in international human rights law, the activities of transnational corporations and other business enterprises. The session held in New York, during the week of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, came in preparation for the third session of the open-ended intergovernmental working group, which will take place in Geneva between the 23rd and 27th of October.
